This week is Baby Massage Week, with a host of events running locally and nationally, details of which will be available in due course at www.babymassageireland.com or www.facebook.com/babymassageireland.
We all know how good we feel after we’ve had a massage. Babies feel just as much as we do, so why wouldn’t a massage help a little? Infant or Baby massage is the very special art of using nurturing touch to communicate with your baby, to show them that they are loved and welcomed and that they can feel safe and secure in this new world into which they’ve been born. Knowing this will allow a baby to grow and develop in a healthy way and gives you the confidence in knowing you are helping your little one in many different ways.
The benefits of baby massage are abundant, for instance it can help stimulate the many systems of the body helping regulate digestion, sleep, easing pains such as colic and constipation. It is also a very special way to bond with a baby, which is why we believe its best taught to those closest to baby, especially the parents, but also grandparents, guardians or siblings. And of course it’s fun!
Baby massage, because of these benefits, is becoming increasingly recognised by the medical profession, thus, most of the larger health insurers in Ireland now refund most of the course fees, dependent on the particular plan held with them and provided the instructor is registered with Baby Massage Ireland. There are certified instructors throughout the country and you can find them listed on www.babymassageireland.com
