Kenagh GAA will host a 10km fun run and 5km walk on Sunday September 9 next. The event had originally been planned for June 2012, but due to unforeseen circumstances the decision was made to postpone to a later date.

In an effort to raise much needed funds for the popular GAA club, committee members have decided to host this fun-based event which will step into action at 12 midday on September 9. Registration is at St. Dominic’s Community Centre, Kenagh from 10.30am.

Organisers have advised that it is important for participants to be at the starting line in plenty of time. This start point is an eight minute walk from the community centre.

“This is very much a community event. It’ll be great fun for everybody. We are looking forward to everyone getting involved and having a fantastic time. The fund-raising is almost secondary really,” said Mr John Rowan, PRO at Kenagh GAA.

Explaining the club’s choice of event, Mr Rowan said “Everybody seems to be crazy running these days so we (the committee) decided it would be a really good way to get the community together and have some fun.”

The route will take in many of the scenic sights associated with the County Longford village and its environs.

“To learn about the route in its entirety, click on our website www.kenaghgaa.com,” said Mr Rowan, a native of Kenagh and a player with the club.

Speaking about the response to date, Mr Rowan continued: “There is a great level of interest and we have received a lot of support from the local community. We don’t know how many people will participate but we’re hoping for 150 or so.

“Furthermore we would appreciate any help people would like to offer, e.g. stewards, taking down times etc.”

Registration costs €10 and sponsorship cards are available by contacting Enda McGann on 087-9980700.

“Those travelling to Kenagh on the day are welcome to register that morning upon arrival. Registration opens from 10.30am in the community centre,” said Mr Rowan.

He added: “There will be light refreshments back at St. Dominic’s Community Centre following the event.”
