Officers behind the wheel of a Garda patrol car avoided injury at the weekend during a high speed chase in Longford, writes Liam Cosgrove.
The incident arose just as gardai were responding to reports of a suspected attempted diesel theft from a factory in the Templemichael area on Friday evening.
When gardai arrived at the scene, a green Volkswagen Passat sped off, resulting in a brief chase during which an attempt was made to ram the pursuing patrol car.
Two men, one aged in his late 30s and the other in his early 20s together with a third individual, believed to be as young as 15 were arrested and brought to Longford Garda Station for questioning.
The trio were later released without charge pending a file to the DPP.
