The communities of Ardagh and Kenagh are in mourning today after the deaths of two young men early last night.

The popular Tom ‘Woody’ Kearney (24) from Ardagh and Gavin Doyle (22) from Kenagh lost their lives last night after the car in which they were travelling lost control on the Ballymacormack to Kenagh road near Stonepark N.S. shortly after midnight.

Another young woman has been transferred to Midland Regional Hospital Tullamore where her condition is described as stable. The driver of the car has since been released from Midlands Regional Hospital Mullingar.

It is believed the group were travelling to Longford Town for a night out when tragedy struck on the bend just past the primary school.

Gardaí in Longford have confirmed that the road has re-opened in the last hour and have appealed for any witnesses to contact them on 043 33 46741.
