Gardaí seek public’s help after spate of robberies
Gardaí in Longford are seeking the public’s assistance in relation to their investigations into a number of robberies over the past week that took place across the county.
Homes and businesses were hit during the spate of robberies.
On Monday, April 7 last the rear patio door of a house at Clonguish Court in Newtownforbes was smashed in and a fridge freezer stolen from the house.
On the same date, a man drove into the forecourt of Beirne’s Filling Station along Longford’s Battery Road and filled up his vehicle with diesel to the value of €115. He subsequently got back into the car and drove from the filling station without paying for the fuel.
Meanwhile in nearby Lanesboro, a battery was removed from a vehicle that was parked overnight in the forecourt of a local garage.
On Tuesday, April 8, two men walked into the Super Valu in Lanesboro and proceeded to steal €200 worth of goods. Gardaí say that when staff at the store reviewed the CCTV footage, they immediately recognised the men. Gardaí are currently investigating the matter.
A burglary at a home in Stonepark last week resulted in the theft of €230 in a purse that was taken in the incident. A laptop and two school bags were also stolen.
A phone was taken from the Cardphone Warehouse store at the N4 Axis Centre in Longford town last Friday. Gardaí are continuing to investigate the matter.
On April 8 last, Longford Fire Brigade was called to a farm where a jeep was burnt out. Longford Gardaí are currently carrying out an investigation to determine the owner of the vehicle.
