Gardai hope to speak with the victim of a serious assault outside Edgeworthstown earlier this week which left an 18-year-old woman with injuries to her head and body.

The woman, who is originally from Co Meath, was discovered by a man out walking his dogs with serious injuries to her forehead and cuts to her upper body.

She was found naked and was said to have been traumatised by the ordeal before later being transerred to the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar.

It’s believed the woman was not raped or sexually assaulted during the attack as gardai endeavour to determine a possible motive for the incident.

Detectives did however arrest and question a man on Wednesday in relation to the attack. He has since been released without charge ahead of an expected file being sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Gardai now hope to be able to proceed with their investigations by speaking to the woman over the next few days once they have been given the all clear by doctors.
