Gardaí are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a man at an apartment in Longford town a week ago.
The dead man has been named as 36-year-old Tomasz Urbaniak, who was originally from Poland.
Mr Urbaniak’s remains were discovered at approximately 9am on Sunday, January 26 at an apartment in the Harbour Point residential complex near Longford’s Market Square. His death is currently being treated as a ‘sudden death’.
The scene was preserved for 24 hours to allow forensic experts carry out an examination. In addition, a post mortem was conducted by Assistant State Pathologist Dr Margot Bolster at the Midland Regional Hospital in Tullamore. However, the results were inconclusive.
This means the case will continue to be investigated by gardaí in order build a picture of Mr Urbaniak’s final hours. Residents in the surrounding area were interviewed by gardaí last week.
It is understood that Mr Urbaniak had been out socialising with friends the previous night. One line of inquiry being investigated is that he may have fallen at some point during the evening. Gardaí also want to establish whether or not he become involved in an altercation which is believed to have occurred near Harbour Point.
