PV’s Bar on Ballymahon Street in Longford closed its doors for the last time on Monday night, and the loss of the landmark establishment will be regarded as the end of an era for the town.

The closure of the pub has resulted in job losses for 17 full-time and part-time staff, who only learned of the development yesterday evening.

“We were half-expecting it to happen at some point, but we had no idea it was going to close so suddenly,” said John Moohan, who worked at the premises since 1985.

The business had entered receivership in recent months and it is understood the property will now be offered for sale with all fixtures and fittings intact.
