TIDY TOWNS

Full marks to Streete Tidy Towns Committee who, as a result of support from Westmeath Community Development Leader Funding were able to completely restore the stone wall on the entrance to the village from the Rathowen side and also put in place new kerbing on the opposite side as well as two stone flower beds built into the existing wall. The exceptional stone work was done by two local brothers, Seamus & Christopher Ross. The Kerbing was done by Sen Dolan, Ankerland Construction, Castlepollard and his crew. A member of the committee told me they could not speak highly enough for all concerned and the icing on the cake was when Westmeath County Council had the road surface re done with tarmacadam. Streete Village certainly has a facelift to be proud of and now all that is left is for the Tidy Towns Judges to show their appreciation with lots of extra points in 2011. Well done to the committee and all concerned. Marian looks forward to being left to continue her good work in 2011.

BOHERQUILL RAMBLERS

The Ramblers were unable to meet on Sunday December 5th because of the snowy weather but they were able to console themselves with the thought of the Ramblers Christmas Dinner which will be held on next Saturday evening, December 11th. This year the Dinner will be held in Feerick's Hotel in Rathowen starting at 8pm. Tickets are 25 euro each and can be reserved by contacting Brian Nerney on 086 2596656. The party is always a lively occasion, so this year especially, it will be an ideal opportunity to get into the Christmas Spirit after all the bad weather.

All Ramblers are urged to take care in the present weather conditions; it would be a pity not to be able to join in all the fun of the Party!

There will be no walk on the day after the Dinner, Sunday 12th, and by the following Sunday, December 19th, everyone will be busy with Christmas preparations so there will be no walk on that Sunday. This means that the Ramblers next walk will be the usual St. Stephen's day walk in Mullaghmeen Forest. Please keep an eye on future notes for further details.

In the meantime, all Ramblers are wished a Happy and Healthy Christmas.
