CHRISTMAS TREE: Kenagh and district development association will have their Christmas tree lighting ceremony on this Saturday night December 11th at 8pm (after Mass).

CHRISTMAS TREE: Kenagh and district development association will have their Christmas tree lighting ceremony on this Saturday night December 11th at 8pm (after Mass).

Refreshments will be served in O'Boyles lounge. There will be a raffle for Christmas fare and refreshments will be served. All parents and children are invited to get involved.


Don't forget the grand Christmas Whist Drive in the lecture Hall Kenagh on Tuesday December 14th. Prizes will include Christmas fare and refreshments will be served.


Longford social services annual church gate collection will take place outside Saint Dominics Church Kenagh on December 10th and 11th. Proceeds will go to meals on wheels. Your support will be greatly appreciated.


The community alert meeting was postponed to December the 8th to Saint Dominics Community Centre.


Longford Historic society annual general meeting has been postponed from December 7th to Tuesday December 14th.It will be held in the Longford Arms Hotel at 8pm. All are invited . A lecture on the war graves of Belgium will follow the AGM.


Tickets are now on sale for Longford Harvest festival party (dance) which will be held in the El Paso on this Friday night December 10th. Music by Seamus Farrell. Refreshments will be served , all are welcome to a good night's entertainment.


O'Boyles annual Bar B Q and Croagh Patrick climb in aid of Longford Hospice and defibrillator was a great success. The total sum collected was 3753 euro which was a fantastic amount . Thanks to all who climbed Croagh Patrick and all who helped at the BBQ on the day. Anyone interested in doing the defibrillator course please leave their names with Raymond O'Boyle at the shop or Glynis or Mary at the Post office. At least 8 to 10 names are required to make it worthwhile. Thanks again to all who contributed to make the event such a success especially those who donated money and spot prizes.


Santy Claus with his horses and sleigh will visit Cloughan farm shop Abbeyshrule on this Saturday December 11th at 1pm. He will distribute presents to the children and give sleigh rides throughout the evening. Farm animals will be present for the benefit of the children. Refreshments will be served and the farm shop will be open.


The crib ceremony which was held in a number of houses over the past week has been very successful. The visits will continue over the coming weeks until Christmas eve.


The numbers drawn in Kenagh GAA weekly lotto last Sunday night were 8, 12, 21, 25.There were two match three winners Barney Bagnall, Rochfortbridge and Leo Flanagan, Deryadd both win forty euro each. Next draw in Leavey's Foigha next Sunday.


December ICA meeting will be held next Monday night Dec 12 at 8.30pm. All members please attend. Congratulations to our quiz team who won the county final last week. A special welcome to our two new members. More new members very welcome.


This week we sadly record the death of Florrie Crooke of Clough Kenagh. She was in her eighty ninth year and had enjoyed a long and healthy life until her recent illness. She was a great car player and always enjoyed her weekly game in Kenagh. To her brother George sisters Ruth and Daphney, nephews , nieces, sisters in law and brother in law we offer sincere sympathy. Funeral arrangements later.
