The 8th issue of Fireside Tales by local historian Jude Flynn has been published and is on sale at local outlets.
It comprises of Tales from around Longford town and County. As with the other seven issues Jude has captured the essence of country living in a most interesting way. There is something in this book which will be of interest to almost every parish in the County. There are stories from Drumlish and Ballinamuck, Dromard and Mullahoran, Kilashee, and Abbeylara to name but a few. The creamery in Ballinalee was a very lucrative project, and is interesting, as is the "Stolen Plough and the Drumlish Ghost" as told by John Connell. I never heard of O'Connor's Hall in Ballinamuck but it too is very interesting.
All I can say is the book is like the other seven is a great read with lovely tales and stories from the pen of a very talented author. It would really make someone away from home or close to home a very acceptable and enjoyable Christmas gift. So thank you to Jude Flynn once again from the people of the parish for this wonderful volume of "Fireside Tales".
We hope it is very successful for him.
