Lough Ree Sub Aqua Club’s facilities in Lanesboro were officially reopened last Sunday, after a fire caused widespread damage to the group’s clubhouse and equipment last year.
The ceremony was performed by Margaret Corcoran, sister of the late Ned Corcoran, who was one of the club’s founder-members when it was established in 1983. Other events included a blessing of the clubhouse and boats and the unveiling of a portrait John Fayne, a member of the club who passed away recently.
There was also plenty of activities available for all who attended, with the barbeque, boat rides and children’s amusements all proving popular with the crowds.
“We’d like to thank all in the community who helped us to get up and running again,” the club’s chariman, Frank Casey told the Leader. “The club is delighted to be able to provide a full lifesaving and diving service once more.”
