Proposals to cut the take home pay of gardai could lead to a mass exodus of the force, it emerged this week.

Those fears were aired at a meeting of Granard’s Joint Policing Committee (JPC) last week after hundreds of rank and file members voted in favour of a “blue flu” campaign.

Cllr Tommy Stokes (Ind) was the first to raise the issue as Garda Representative Association (GRA) members vote on suggested work-to-rule action.

Responding, Superintendent Ian Lackey was reluctant to comment, saying many different scenarios were still being speculated upon.
