Gardai have launched a public appeal after a Co Leitrim father-of-two was killed in a road accident outside Ballinagh on Sunday morning.

Thirty-nine-year old Declan Harte, Carrigallen, Co Leitrim, was killed when the lorry he was driving hit a ditch at Drummora, Crossdoney, Co Cavan at around 9:30am.

It’s understood Mr Harte was in the process of delivering milk when the accident occurred on the R1999 Crossdoney to Killeshandra road.

The scene was sealed off for some time as emergency personnel attempted to gain access to the tanker.

Widely known throughout the Carrigallen area, Mr Harte was well respected in the wider farming community where he worked for a time as an agricultural contractor.
