New school for Edgeworthstown

Longford County Council has granted planning permission for the construction of a new school in Edgeworthstown. The school will be located on the site of the existing school, St Mary’s NS, on Granard Road, Edgeworthstown.

Longford County Council has granted planning permission for the construction of a new school in Edgeworthstown. The school will be located on the site of the existing school, St Mary’s NS, on Granard Road, Edgeworthstown.

The Board of Management at St Mary’s NS, had submitted a planning application April 20, 2010 seeking the demolition of the existing primary school building and removal of prefabs, to build a new two storey 20 classroom school at the current site of St Mary’s NS, Edgeworthstown, Granard Road,

As well as 20 classrooms, the new facility will consist of eight special tuition rooms, a state of the art special needs unit, a computer room, multi-purpose room and offices.

.Cllr Tom Victory, who is the Chairperson of the Board of Management at the school welcomed the planning permission.

“The new school will be of great benefit for a town with the population of Edgeworthstown,” he told the Leader
