Ghost estates works move a step closer

Longford County Council is calling for expressions of interest for works to be carried out on 18 of the county’s unfinished housing estates. The move follows a recent announcement by the council that €400,000 had been allocated towards a number of projects related to some of the county’s so called ‘ghost estates’.

The move follows a recent announcement by the council that €400,000 had been allocated towards a number of projects related to some of the county’s so called ‘ghost estates’.

Works being undertaken include removal of construction and demolition waste, erection of secure weld mesh fencing and access gates, supply and erection of various types of fending and gates, concrete repairs to footpaths and supply and installation of kerbing, demolition of partially constructed units, removal of C&D Waste and backfill over foundations, importation of top soil, leveling and grass seeding of green areas, including grass cutting. Other works such as securing vacatn houses are also cited on the specifications.

Estates to receive these works were confirmed by Longford County Council at a recent meeting. Top of the funding list was Stonepark’s Silver Birches estate (€65,000), followed by the Forthill estate in Aughnacliffe (€49,054) with Longford town’s White Linen Woods at €39,100.

Funding was also allocated to Radharc na Choill in Cullyfad (€29,140); Hazelwood in Legan (e30,763); McArt Meadows in Newtownforbes (€25,100); Sli Corglass in Moyne (€36,100) and Rath na gCarraige in Carrickboy (€17,688). Caislean Breac in Newtownforbes secured €17,100; while Abbeyview in Abbeylara acquired €19,816; The Mill in Clondra received €17,700 while Clough Dillons in Kenagh obtained €11,700. Meanwhile, Cnoc na Greine in Granard received a €10,200 total.

Sums of under €10,000 have been allocated to Abhainn Glas, Edgeworthstown; Sliabh Rua, Drumlish, Woodland Park, Cullyfad, The Rocks, Stonepark and Mastersons Court, Abbeylara.

Contractors wishing to tender for approved works must apply to Longford County Council no later than Friday August 19, 2011. Expressions of interest must be made via email to ueplanning@longfordcoco.ie or in writing to Patricia Shaughnessy, Planning Department, Aras an Chontae, Great Water Street, Longford.
