A section of road along one of County Longford’s busiest roadways is in danger of collapse, it has been claimed.
According to a message posted on problem-reporting website www.fixyourstreet.ie, a two metre stretch of road adjacent to local pub, ‘The Chestnut Tree’ has become a hazard to motorists.
The complaint which was published earlier this month also alleges council staff carried out remedial works shortly before defects began emerging on the road.
“Longford Co Co spent two days repairing a two metre long road defect at Dooners Pub (The Chestnut Tree) in Killashee on the N63. It has now sunk and is causing a severe bump which could cause loss of control when driving a car or motor bike,” said the anonymous complainant.
The posting is made all the more surprising given the fact that the website was originally set up and controlled by South Dublin County Council in an attempt to solve the capital’s road problems.
A response carried on the website last Friday (August 5) confirmed this, adding however the matter was currently being examined by Longford council officials.
“This site has been set up as a pilot and has begun with the South Dublin County Council area only. Unfortunately we cannot give you a response for issues outside our area at this time. However we have been in touch with our colleagues in Longford County Council who will have the matter examined on your behalf,” it said.
