Man in serious condition after motorbike crash

A motorcyclist had to be airlifted to hospital over the weekend following a single vehicle accident in north Longford.

A second man, and pillion passenger, was also hospitalised after the incident which occurred at Lower Gaigue, Ballinamuck at around 1:30pm on Sunday.

Gardai want to establish how the motorcycle left the road and collided with a stone wall, throwing both men from the vehicle.

Due to the seriousness of the crash, the road was sealed off for several hours before eventually being re-opened at 8:30pm on Sunday evening.

The driver of the motorcycle and who suffered the most serious injuries was airlifted to University College Hospital, Galway.

It’s understood he sustained a serious leg injury and was on Monday afternoon still being cared for in hospital.

The Leader also understands he is in his late 20s and comes from the north Longford area.

His pillion passenger was taken to Cavan General Hospital for what were described as non-life threatening injuries.
