The occupants of a car travelling on the N4 between Longford and Edgeworthstown on Monday had a lucky escape when the vehicle lost control.
Three people were removed from the car and taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Mullingar, but their injuries are not thought to be serious.
The accident occurred at approximately 2.45pm and traffic was reduced to one lane while emergency services attended the scene.
According to a garda spokesperson, the cause of the crash has been attributed to a flooded section of the road at Lissard.
“The vehicle drove into the flood and lost control,” the spokesperson said. “It then hit a wall and overturned.”
Flooding is also responsible for ongoing service disruptions on the Dublin-Sligo railway line.
Due to flooding near Dromod, bus transfers have been in place between Longford and Carrick-on-Shannon since Monday, with delays of up to 30 minutes being reported. The disruption also resulted in the cancellation of the 16.00 Dublin-Sligo service on Monday and Tuesday.
