In June 2013, Lidl and Barretstown announced a partnership that would see Lidl raise €1 million for the children’s charity over three years.

With each store in Ireland electing a “Barretstown Buddy”, fundraising quickly got underway. The buddy in Longford Lidl is Aoife Molihan, who explains that the buddies all got the chance to spend some time at the Barretstown camp, and see first hand the incredible work done there. “I couldn’t even begin to tell you how amazing it is,” Aoife explains.

While there, the buddies were split into groups according to region and set about brainstorming for fundraising ideas.

Though some stores settled on bucket collections, Aoife explains that the idea of a car wash stood out immediately.

So on Saturday, September 21, the staff and management of Lidl took to their carpark with enthusiasm to raise money for the camp. There was also face painting and balloons available, along with an in-store competition.

Thanks to the hard work of staff and the generous support of locals, Lidl managed to raise almost €2,000 for Barretstown. Aoife is thrilled with the amount raised, and praises her colleagues for their dedication. “We have such a good team. Everyone pulled together and it was all voluntary.”
