Despite the extreme heat experienced in recent weeks, Acorn supporters enthusiastically made their way to the Mall, Longford, to take part in a 5km fun run/walk.
As well as raising much-needed funds for the Acorn project, the group took to the Mall on Saturday, July 20 to raise awareness about mental health and suicide. Community Development Worker with Longford Community Resources, and Acorn volunteer Peter Masterson says that those who participated in the race were “enthusiastic runners and people who appreciate the cause and find empathy in the programmes that ACORN run.”
Peter is quick to commend Ian Devlin, who works in the Drop-in Centre at 2 Garvey’s Yard for his work, adding that it was Ian who created the event “tying in a cause and people who like to run”.
“Thanks to the management of the Mall for having the facility looking so well” Peter says, adding that it was a “jewel in the crown” and “a joy” to run there. All proceeds from the event will go into the programmes that Acorn run during the year.
