Gardai are following a “particular line of inquiry” after a gunshot was fired through the front window of a house in Edgeworthstown earlier this morning (Thursday).

The bullet, which is believed to have come from a shotgun, shattered the window of the house located in the Shannon Park estate as well as causing minor damage to an interior room downstairs.

No one was injured during the attack which occured at around 3am and all occupants were believed to have been asleep upstairs at the time of the incident.

Gardai have so far declined to confirm whether the incident is related to an ongoing feud in the area, preferring instead to launch an appeal for potential witnesses and members of the public to assist them with their investigation.

A spokesman, however, said the incident may have been a “deliberate attempt” to cause damage and intimidate those targeted by the attack.

“It’s too early to say at this stage what the motive was,” said the spokesperson, revealing detectives hoped to make progress with their inquiries over the coming days.

Anyone with information or who may have been in the Shannon Park estate at around 3am this morning (Thursday) and noticed anything suspicious is asked to contact Granard Garda Station at (043) 6686512.
