Search teams believe Joe Lawrence, Gardener’s Hill, Balbriggan, is hiding out in Longford after he managed to give officers the slip by jumping over Balbriggan Garda Station’s wall and fleeing on foot.

The 20 year-old was stopped by gardaí in Rush, north Co Dublin, on suspicion of stealing a car.

He was brought to Balbriggan Garda Station on July 15 for questioning, but escaped shortly afterwards.

It’s emerged Lawrence made his escape shortly after asking to be allowed a short cigarette break in the station’s yard. Garda sources believe the suspect is now seeking refuge at an unidentified Co Longford address.

“He has connections there so that is why it is thought that he is in Longford,” a source said. “Our investigation as to his whereabouts is ongoing.”
