A commemorative plaque originally erected to mark former President Mary McAleese’s Freedom of Longford town award, is to be returned.

In a motion submitted by Cllr Mae Sexton seeking its restoration, council bosses agreed to reinstate the plaque after it was taken down during the redevelopment of the town’s market square. “If you and the town engineer (Brian McNeela) can find a suitable place, we will re-erect it,” Town Clerk Dan Rooney told Cllr Sexton.
