A home located at the heart of Longford town was yesterday (Thursday February 24) in flames following a fire at the site. One unit of County Longford Fire Services was called to No. 11 Harbour Row where a fire was reported by passersby.
“It was reported to us that there was a fire at a domestic house and that there possibly were people inside,” said a spokesperson for County Longford Fire Services. “On arrival at the site, three firemen went inside and did a search of the house. It was unoccupied.”
The fire brigade proceeded to extinguish the fire and to vent the smoke from the building. The ESB were also called to cut the power supply to the house and adjacent buildings.
The house, which is the home of a Mr Joe White, incurred significant smoke damage. Mr White was not in the house at the time of the fire. Gardai are currently investigating the cause of the fire.
