For the second year in a row, Longford College of Further Education have celebrated a win at the prestigious BABTAC (British Association of Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology) and CIBTAC (Confederation of International Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology) Awards.

At the awards ceremony, which took place in Birmingham on Sunday, June 21, Beauty Therapy Co-ordinator and Tutor Jil Kelly Greene, was named CIBTAC Tutor of the Year.

This year’s nomination was the second one for Jil, while it’s the second win for the college, who were named Centre of the Year at the 2014 awards.

Speaking about the awards, which she attended with her husband Richard, Jil explained, “I was a little bit nervous but I was just trying to keep a calm head.

“It’s great to even get to the finals of an award like this!”

Anonymously referring to Jil’s application in glowing terms, the Chairperson of CIBTAC then announced her as the winner, which, according to Jil, was a great shock.

“You go to these things and you think, ‘I’m in the finals and that’s great. Whatever happens, happens’.

“I was thrilled. Absolutely just delighted.

“We have a great course running down there and a great school,” she continued, acknowledging the support of her colleagues and the Principal and Deputy Principal.

Having trained at Longford College of Further Education, Jil has been working in the college for the past nine years, and says she continuously strives to get the best out of her students.

“I love what I do and I’m very passionate about what I do,” she added.

Commenting on the win, Principal Sorcha Nic Dhonnacha said, “This prestigious nomination is a great honour and shows that Tutors like Jil can mean a course in Longford College of Further Education can be one of the best in the world.

“The hard work has paid off and it is brilliant that these standards are recognised by an International Confederation of Beauty Therapy.”

Councillor Seamus Butler welcomed the news, and stated that huge progress has been made in Longford College of Further Education.
