A Polish man arrested in Ballymahon last week has appeared before a sitting of the High Court on foot of an European arrest warrant, writes Liam Cosgrove.
The man, who is in his 50s, is also being investigated in connection with a series of alleged crimes in the greater Ballymahon area.
It is understood Gardaà arrested the man in response to a call from a member of the public last Tuesday.
The accused had been reported acting suspiciously, which ultimately prompted Gardaà to act.
As events unfolded and officers carried out checks on the man, it transpired a European arrest warrant was still outstanding.
No further details have so far been disclosed as to the nature of the alleged crimes the accused is under investigation for.
However, the man was remanded in custody following the High Court hearing last Wednesday.
