The family of a local man who died when the internal wall of the Connacht Gold Co-op fell on him were awarded €750,000 in damages at a High Court sitting last week.

Teresa Mulleady of Creenagh, Longford was awarded the sum after her husband Sean (48) died from injuries he sustained after a section of the wall collapsed on him and several others at the store on January 29, 2013.

Mr Mulleady, a married father of three was buying gates at the time of the incident. A second man also lost his life and several others were seriously injured.

The court heard that Mr Mulleady was a hard working man who did not drink or smoke. He was employed as a fitter with a family business in Longford town and also operated a small farm.

Counsel for the Mulleady family said Mr Mulleady’s death had been “extremely traumatic” for the deceased’s wife and family.

Mrs Mulleady sued Connacht Gold who was the tenant at the store when the tragedy occurred; the premises’ owners, Vincent Ruane Builders Ltd and Construction Ltd and the project manager Simon Beale trading as Simon Beale and Associates.
