Environment Minister Phil Hogan offically opened Granard’s newly refurbished Market House and Community Library yesterday (Thursday).

Mr Hogan said the redesign would provide a focal point for locals to meet not just for educational, but for social purposes for years to come.

Besides the upbeat feel to proceedings there were emotional scenes also, typified by Granard Town Mayor Cllr Maura Kilbride-Harkin.

She said despite the day being a memorable one for the north Longford town, it was tinged with sadness too as the occasion marked the last official function of Granard Town Council.
