Gardaà in Longford are appealing to the public for assistance after the church in Carrickedmond was burgled at the weekend.
Thieves stole a number of items from the facility including a candle holder, glass bowl for holy water and loose change from candles. The Leader understands that the parish priest called the gardaà on February 22 last after he made the discovery just after 5pm.
Egan’s Tyre Services, Terlicken, was also targeted by burglars last Thursday. Gardaà say that the assailants gained access to the premises via the roof and subsequently caused extensive damage to a cigarette machine before making off with hundreds of Euro worth of smokes and cash from the dispenser. Two cars were broken into at a car park in Lanesboro at the weekend. A wallet, laptop and iPad were taken in the incidents and gardaà are appealing to the public not to leave valuables on display in their cars.
There were also a number of arrests for drink driving across the country this week, which has led gardaà to remind drivers of the dangers of drink driving.
