According to figures released by the Injuries Board, Longford accounted for the second highest number of personal injury awards per head of population.
In the Injuries Board’s annual review, it was revealed that 131 awards for compensation were made in the county.
Second only to Limerick (which accounted for 788 awards), Longford claimants were awarded an average of €20,862, while the total compensation issued came to a staggering €2,732,922.
In total, the Injuries Board made 10,656 awards in 2013, with €243.5m awarded to injured parties.
