Elected representatives should have a far greater input into how money is spent at a local level, according to Cllr Sean Farrell.
He said the expertise at grassroots political level showed local authorities were more than capable of assigning funding and managing projects.
“There is a feeling that local authority members and county councils are not able to run things properly which is completely wrong. I feel the local authority is the proper area where monies and schemes should be administered from,” he said.
Cllr Farrell’s remarks were made during a council debate on the setting up of so-called ‘Front-Runner’ socio economic committees.
