79% of Longford homes have paid household charge

Over 10,200 homeowners in Longford have registered their property for the Household Charge, which can be paid up until June 30.

Over 10,200 homeowners in Longford have registered their property for the Household Charge, which can be paid up until June 30.

The Household Charge applies to 2012 only, as from July this year it will be replaced by the Local Property Tax, which will be administered and collected by the Office of the Revenue Commissioners.

“We thank all those residential property owners who have registered for and paid the Household Charge in respect of 2012,” said Longford Co Manager, Tim Caffrey. “Your charge is going directly to fund local services such as street lighting and cleaning, playgrounds, parks and playing pitches, public libraries, swimming pools and many other vital local services that benefit all in our communities.”

Under legislation providing for the Local Property Tax, any outstanding Household Charge liabilities will automatically become a charge of €200 after 1 July, which will be collected by the Revenue Commissioners and will be subject to their collection and enforcement procedures.

Residential property owners can register for and pay the charge up until 30 June by logging on to www.householdcharge.ie, posting a registration form to PO box 12168, Dublin 1, or at the relevant local authority office.

Homeowners who are eligible for a waiver will also need to register at www.householdcharge.ie.
