The annual Longford’s Lenten Lunch takes place this Friday (March 15) lunchtime in the Longford Arms Hotel. Now in its 21st year, the annual luncheon, which raises funds for St. Christopher’s Services and the Longford Hospice, is one of most popular events in the Longford calendar.

“Approximately 500 people attend each year. We really do receive great support,” Margaret Connellan, PRO with St. Christopher’s Services told the Longford Leader. “What makes this event so remarkable is that everything is sponsored, from the venue to the food to the raffle.”

Tickets cost €8 each and are available from committee members or on the door on March 15.

“There is a three course meal consisting of soup and a roll, a meat salad, tea or coffee and scones. It is a really delicious lunch,” said Margaret. On the day there will also be a flower arrangement table and a book stall.

St. Christopher’s Services is an organisation founded by parents and friends to promote a comprehensive and efficient service to people with intellectual difficulties. Longford Hospice is a local branch of the Irish Hospice Foundation which assists those with life-limiting illnesses and their families. The lunch which begins at 12.30pm runs until 2pm.
