Gardai in Longford say they are making progress in theongoing investigation into a serious sex assault on a woman in Longford town last month.
A woman in her late 20s was attacked as she walked past a railway bridge in the Farneyhoogan area of Longford town on October 10 last.
Senior officers would not comment on whether a breakthrough was imminent when contacted by the Leader on Monday, saying detectives were pressing ahead with the investigation as its enters a fourth week.
The victim was left severely traumatised by the ordeal following the attack which occurred shortly after midnight and just a matter of yards from the town’s old swimming pool.
An extensive forensic examination of the scene was carried out in the immediate aftermath of the incident along with door to door enquiries.
Despite the Gardai’s reluctance to release any further details, Supt Shields once again appealed the wider general public for information.
