An investigation is under way today (Wednesday) after a raider walked into a south Longford take-away and threatened staff before escaping with cash.
The suspect, who was wearing dark clothes and a balaclava, entered Flanagan’s Takeaway in Ballymahon at around 11pm last night brandishing what sources have described as a “baton” or blunt instrument.
After a brief exchange, the raider grabbed what’s believed to have been a small sum of cash from behind the counter, before making his escape of on foot.
Gardai were this morning painstakingly trawling through CCTV footage in an attempt to determine the identity and escape route taken by the raider.
As that particular line of inquiry continues to be examined, one theory senior gardai are also working on is the belief that the suspect is local given that the raider made off in the direction of the town’s Thomond Court area.
A Garda spokesman told longfordleader.ie earlier today staff at the popular fast food outlet were unharmed but had been traumatised by the events of last night.
Eye witnesses, or anyone who may have been in the vicinity of Flanagan’s Takeaway, Main Street, Ballymahon is asked to contact Longford Garda Station at (043) 3346741.
