Fianna Fail’s Longford selection convention is expected to take place on October 19, the Leader can reveal.
Should there be any issue with Monday week, other dates being considered include the previous Saturday and Sunday as agreed selection contests.
As expected, the Longford Arms Hotel will provide the setting much the long awaited selection contest and determine who will run alongside sitting TD Robert Troy.
The announcement was made last night (Tuesday) following a meeting of the party’s local Comhairle Dáil Ceantair and senior officials in Dublin.
It comes amid mounting speculation Taoiseach Enda Kenny is increasingly warming to the idea of a pre-Christmas election, possibly in mid to late November.
When it is held, the Longford convention will be one of the last to be staged by the party nationwide and ahead of any upcoming election.
