Gardaí will have to wait to find out whether any charges can be brought against a man arrested in connection to the discovery of a cannabis growhouse in Ballymahon.

The discovery was made during the early hours of last Monday morning in an housing estate by members of the Divisional Drugs Unit and local gardaí.

Up to 80 cannabis plants in various stages of growth were found in an upstairs bedroom by officers along with a quantity of cannabis herb.

A man, aged 40, was arrested at the scene and detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act for questioning.

He was subsequently released without charge ahead of a file being sent to the DPP’s office in Dublin.

Separately, gardaí are also investigating a daylight raid on a house in Newtownforbes over the weekend.

Detectives believe thieves made off with around €3,000 worth of home and electrical equipment as a result of the heist on a house at Berkely, The Courtyard.

The raid was reported when gardaí received notification that a house had been completely ransacked sometime between the hours of 1pm and 5pm.

It’s also understood the culprits gained entry to the property by prising open a window.

Among the items stolen were a Playstation 4, Xbox 360, a range of male clothing items, two flatscreen televisions, two Samsung tablets and €750.
