Five schools in Co Longford are set to benefit from this year’s Summer Works Scheme following the latest announcement from the Department.
Longford/Westmeath Fine Gael TD, James Bannon welcomed the announcement from the Department of Education & Skills and pointed to the €36m that was being allocated nationally under the scheme.
“Almost €36 million is being provided by the Department of Education and Skills under the first round of funding for the Summer Works Scheme 2014.
Moyne Community School, St Michael’s National School, Scoil Bhríde, Glen; Longford Mixed NS and SN Mhuire, Cluain de Rath, Longfoirt will also receive electrical and mechanical supports this summer.
“The successful schools will receive money to improve and upgrade existing school building,” added Deputy Bannon. “This first round of funding will allow schools to carry out small and medium scale building works across three categories of projects - Gas, Electrical and Mechanical. A second round of the scheme is expected to be announced in coming weeks. This round will cover other types of improvement works, with applications still being assessed. These works will be carried out in schools over the summer months.”
