Longford County Council’s infrastructure and environmental services division are likely to face a grilling from one irate local representative later today (Wednesday), writes Liam Cosgrove.
Cllr Paul Connell is expected to table a series of questions over the refurbishment of footpaths in and around Longford town at this afternoon’s county council meeting.
The Independent representative is unhappy with the progress being made by engineers after it emerged upgrade works were still no further than design stage.
“I have been on about this for the past two and a half years,” said Cllr Connell, who spoke on the issue at last week’s meeting of Longford Town Council.
“It’s been there (design stage) for nearly 12 months. The Town Council have put some money aside to try and hurry it up, but it’s under the remit of the county council.”
The planting of trees and landscape works along Main Sreet is one area the dual mandate holder wants to see introduced.
“Whoever is holding it up should be ashamed of themselves,” he raged.
