Two hospitalised after crash between Longford and Newtownforbes

The N4 between Longford and Newtownforbes reopened this evening following a serious crash earlier today involving a car and a lorry. The incident happened around 12 noon at the Knockmartin Lane junction.

The N4 between Longford and Newtownforbes reopened this evening following a serious crash earlier today involving a car and a lorry. The incident happened around 12 noon at the Knockmartin Lane junction.

The occupants of the car, a man and a woman in their 50s, sustained serious injuries in the accident and they were taken to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Tullamore. The driver of the lorry was uninjured in the incident. The road was closed for a short time after the crash while emergency services were on the scene. However the road reopened this afternoon.

Longord Gardai have issued an appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact them on 043 33 50570.

Meanwhile gardai at Cavan Garda station are investigating a single vehicle fatal road traffic crash which occurred at Carrickaboy between Cavan and Kilnaleck about 5.45am 26th August 2013.

A man in his mid 20’s was killed in the crash. Another man and two women, all in their late teens or early 20s, who were also in the car, were taken to Cavan General Hospital with non life threatening injuries.
