Drug Education Initiative, a joint project between Granard’s Ardscoil Padraig and the Foróige Attic Youth Café, proved to be very successful in raising awareness about the risks posed to young people around alcohol, smoking and substance use.

First year students in Ardscoil Phadraig participated in classes with Theresa Connell, the Alcohol and Drug Education Worker, over a six week period. The classes built on the existing knowledge that young people have on the risks of alcohol, smoking and other substances and gave young people the chance to develop skills and attitudes that would help them to make safe, responsible decisions as they make their journey through adolescence.

Programmes are rooted in the belief that once young people are empowered with knowledge and develop personal skills that promote confidence and self esteem and encouraged to participate in positive, alcohol free activities, they will make more responsible decisions around alcohol and drug use.

The Attic Youth Café Drug Education Initiative runs programmes across Longford County on an ongoing basis, for further information contact Theresa Connell 086 7811535 or Theresa.connell@foroige.ie.
