Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after a quantity of cigarettes valued at €30,000 was stolen from a property at Cohanagh on the outskirts of Longford town on Saturday afternoon.
The incident occurred some time between 2pm and 7pm when thieves gained entry to the house by forcing open the front door and a number of windows. The side window of a van parked outside was also smashed.
The intruders located the key to a store adjacent to the house, where they found the cigarettes and made their escape, despite triggering a security alarm. The incident was reported to gardaí by a neighbour who heard the alarm being set off.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact Longford Garda Station on 043 3346741.
