Cllr Mark Casey has blasted Socialist Party deputy Clare Daly for claiming travel expenses incurred while travelling around the country campaigning against the Household Charge.
Cllr Casey, who is prominent member of the Longford Campaign Against the Household and Water Charges, helped organise a number of protests against the introduction of the controversial taxes in the county.
“I was very surprised to see those that normally take the high moral ground would claim expenses for those purposes. It’s just unacceptable; it puts them in there with the likes of Aengus Ó’Snodaigh claiming for all those printer cartridges,” he said.
Daly revealed that she used the allowances to travel around the country “to represent the views of the people I was elected to represent” on TV3’s Tonight with Vincent Browne last week.
However, Cllr Casey did not accept this was the case. “These people in positions like this need to take responsibility for what they have done and pay back every cent to the state,” he said.
