Locals in the south Longford villlage of Killashee are up in arms this week over damage caused to a life-sized mannequin.

The model, sporting a Longford jersey in anticipation of Saturday evening’s All-Ireland qualifier with Derry, had been erected barely 500 yards from the village centre on the main Lanesboro road.

It wasn’t until Sunday evening that it became obvious that vandals had struck, leaving locals in uproar.

“We know it happened between 4-5pm (on Sunday),” said George McDermott, who originally put up the mannequin.

“It’s just such a shame as one of the club’s defibrillators was taken out and thrown into a drain last Sunday evening. That’s going to cost around €1500 to replace, but this is especially annoying. What we need now is for people to come forward and contact the Gardai,” he said.
