N4 road shut following discovery of suspect device

It is understood the discovery of a suspect device at Shroid prompted a closure of the N4 road between Longford and Edgeworthstown on Wednesday evening.
The N4 Dublin-Sligo Road was closed between Longford and Edgeworthstown for a time this evening following an incident at Shroid just outside Longford town.

The Longford Leader understands a suspect device was discovered in the area at approximately 5pm and the Defence Forces Bomb Disposal Unit was called in to make it safe.

It is believed the device has now been removed for further examination.

“Gardaí in Longford wish to advise that the N4 has reopened in relation to an earlier road closure and diversions,” a spokesperson for the Garda Press Office said.
