Sinn Fein has established a north Longford Cumman, the Leader has learned.
The event took place at the Community Centre in Granard last Thursday evening where a full commitee was put in place.
Over 30 people were in attendance and it was an historic occasion on many fronts, but most especially because Longford was the only remaining county in Ireland that did not have a Sinn Fein cumman in the mix.
Speaking afterwards, PRO, John Reilly - who ran in the Granard Electoral Area local elections back in May - said the next step for the organisation was to prepare members to contest the next general election. “We will be holding public meetings on a regular basis about local issues and expect Matt Carthy to visit one of those meetings before Christmas,” added Mr Reilly. “Social issues are top of our agenda and it is our intention to contest the next general election.”
The new north Longford Sinn Féin Cumman committee includes: Finbar Meehan (Chairman); Eddie Kelly (Vice Chairman); Lynda Murphy (Secretary); John Kiernan (Treasurer); John Reilly (PRO).
