There was great excitement at St Mary’s NS Drumlish on Monday morning when TV3’s Noel Cunningham and his camera crew arrived to begin filming in the north Longford village.

One of the school’s pupils, Jamie Nertney won Ireland AM’s Local Legend competition recently, after he submitted details about his adored grandfather Paddy Nertney. In recognition of Jamie’s outstanding achievement, TV3 subsequently decided to film at the local school, much to all the students’ delight. The recording will be aired on Ireland AM this Thursday morning. “My grandad is really kind and he never gets mad,” said Jamie, adding that he also helped his grandad to fodder and foot turf in the bog.

“I was shocked when I heard that TV3 were going to come down and film - we had a really great day and I was interviewed by Noel Cunningham.” Throughout the year, Ireland AM will be visiting every county in Ireland looking for a local legend.

All national school children are being asked to participate and to nominate someone they feel deserves the title of Local Legend.
