Ten tickets have been allocated to Longford parish for the ordination of the new bishop, Francis Duffy in Athlone on Sunday, October 6.

Ten tickets have been allocated to Longford parish for the ordination of the new bishop, Francis Duffy in Athlone on Sunday, October 6.

It has been decided that the tickets will be distributed to parishioners by way of a lottery. Those interested in attending must submit their name, address and phone number on the piece of paper provided, and place it in the boxes located in the entrance halls to the Cathedral Centre and College Chapel before the draw on Wednesday, September 11.

For those who do not procure tickets to the event, it is hoped that the Ordination will be broadcast live at the College Assembly Hall, where everyone can participate in the celebration. The Ordination Booklet will also be made available.

On Saturday, September 14, Bishop Colm will celebrate the vigil mass, marking his retirement as Bishop. Refreshments will be served and there will be entertainment afterwards in the Assembly Hall to thank Bishop Colm for his many years of service.

On Friday, October 4, the Feast of St Francis, 7.30pm mass will see the blessing of the insignia of the new bishop, including the ring, mitre, pectoral cross and crozier.

Finally, on Sunday, October 13, Bishop Francis will celebrate 11.30am mass, after which he will be formally welcomed to Longford as he meets the parishioners after mass.
