An Bord Pleanala has given the go ahead to Roscommon Co Council for the construction of new civic offices in the town.
Roscommon Mayor, Cllr Tom Crosby said that the decision was a positive move and pointed to the necessity of such offices in the county town.
“New civic offices for the county are essential as the present facility - the courthouse - which was built in the early eighteen hundreds for the Courts Service, and is today serving as both civic offices and court facilities are totally inadequate and unsuitable for the present day needs,” he added.
“This protected building is not wheelchair accessible or suitable for the elderly because of the number of steps to the front and throughout the internal of the building. There are no lift facilities within the building, either, so new offices are very much needed for the county.”
